DIPLOMA BOOKLET

The confidential counsellor is an external counsellor who works for the Nuyens Institute, which is part of the ATscholen group (as is the IS Hilversum). It is the counsellor’s job to support the student in any way possible. Students can be referred to the external counsellor through the Diploma Programme Supervisor. In addition, the school offers an in house counsellor who operates independently of the DP team. A student may have problems in their personal lives, at home or indeed at school. If teachers feel that a certain student is not doing as well as expected, or if their behaviour has changed, they may ask the DP supervisor (class mentor) to intervene and approach that individual to see if anything can be done to help. The counsellor is also the contact person for the official complaints procedure. In addition, we may be able to help a student find professional help outside of school and to refer them to the school doctor if a student’s record of attendance is not acceptable or indeed for any other medical matter which is affecting a student's ability to perform at school. It is very important that all students understand that there is somebody independent in school whose job it is to help and support students, in confidence, when life is difficult. Please see the school’s inclusion policy for further details. The school also has a student well being officer, who can be approached at any time for any number of reasons.
