DP1

Careers Fair
In the spring term, the annual ISH Careers Fair takes place. During these two days, DP1 students will be practising writing personal statements and becoming familiar with the different application processes of universities in the Netherlands, UK and US. Every year we have a number of universities that come to the school on the first day to make a presentation to the students.

Unifrog University Search Programme
Students now have access to Unifrog which helps them investigate and prepare to apply for undergraduate courses in a number of countries.

Study Courses for IB
DP1 students can attend pre-IB courses organised in various locations around the UK and elsewhere. These preparation courses will help provide the lesser organised student bring some structure into their study plans. In addition these independent companies provide MID-IBDP and final revision courses. Ask Student Services for details. The school is unable to guarantee the quality of these programmes, since it has not control over their delivery.

Applications to US Universities
A good place to start is www.collegeboard.com for information on American universities and colleges. Here it is possible to register for SAT and other tests and to sample practice papers. The careers advisor will be happy to help.

Applications to UK Universities
All DP2 students intending to study in the UK after their Diploma exams should start early in the new school year when applying for university.
All applications for Medicine (Dentistry, Veterinary science as well as training to be a doctor) must be sent by the 1st of October to ensure they are received on time. Late applications are not possible. Students may also be required to take extra tests such as the UKCAT or the BMAT. This must be arranged early in DP2 or even before entry. For the BMAT, there is only one session a year.
All other UCAS applications should be ready before the 1st of December. Students will require references, so allow, at least two weeks before they intend to apply, teachers to write them. Forms for predicted grades are available from the DP Office. www.UCAS.com is a very useful source for the application process with instructional videos and a course choice guide.

Applications to Dutch Universities
Many Dutch universities, particularly the university colleges have earlier application dates than the regular Dutch universities. Applying in November is recommended. Check the university websites for details. You will need to apply through www.studielink.nl as well as the university website. A useful link for studies in the Netherlands in English is www.studyinholland.nl or studyfinder.nl.

IMPORTANT
More and more universities now also require school reports and predicted grades. This means it is important to maintain focus throughout your whole academic career.

Low predicted grades and poor term grades can result in the rejection of your application.
